The Red Life Jacket

One of my first projects was created in response to the 'small boats' coverage in relation to migrants crossing the channel. Boarded on heavily laden boats with far too many people but wearing the iconic red life jacket which gave an illusion of them being safe. Far too many have perished on this dangerous crossing made by desperate people in need of help and support. I wanted to create the fragility and human cost that these boat trips bring so here you see a life buoy made out of felt and an eviscerated life jacket as this installation piece.
